Abraham Lincoln was the 16th American president.
He was a lawyer.
Did you know that Lincoln never attend school more than a year?
How come did he become a good lawyer and an America President?
He had education.
You see, people keep on thinking that education and school are the same thing.
School doesn’t give you education, it only gives you certificate.
It’s your duty to give yourself education……. If you like.
That’s not where we’re going today.
Sometimes ago I read the following words from Abraham Lincoln:
“If I have six hours to cut down a tree, I’ll use four hours to sharpen my axe”.
What does that mean to you?
(Read that quote again).
I heard one unconfirmed news about a Nigerian former footballer (Jay Jay Okocha) when he scored a wonderful free-kick.
He said he had practiced that kick for over a thousand time.
No wonder some footballers perform “magic” on the field.
School didn’t teach us about, nor prepare us for life.
As an entrepreneur, your brain must work like that of a footballer.
You must *prepare* your exhibition.
I know how painful it is to start a business without proper preparation.
I was lucky when I started my first business (at age 15).
It was successful though I didn’t know anything about preparation.
However when I left higher institution to start fully in the business world, I hit rock.
I failed terribly.
I only had passion.
No business survey.
No market research to find out what people truly need and will pay for.
No attempt to spy the competitors and know their weaknesses.
No business tactics.
All the above are what you must do *before* ever starting a business.
Did school teach you all this?
Maybe in theory.
Abraham Lincoln taught all of us that most important part of life is about preparation.
Get prepared. Read that business book. Attend that business seminar. Google that business question.
You will succeed!
