Innovation is a very important thing for any business owner.
However, being innovative is a tough work for most of us.
How do we go about this?
Do this simple assignment; Listen to many old music.
Look for ways to get music of 30-40 years ago and listen to them.
Something would become clear to you immediately; there’s nothing new under the Sun.
When I did this exercise (though not deliberate), I suddenly discovered that many of the popular music today are nothing but the music of 30-40 years ago, with some additional twists.
This is what I call “adding EXTRA to ordinary”
When you discover that many of today’s popular music are mere yesterday’s creativity plus an EXTRA, what would you think?
You will stop worrying about your lack of creativity.
Instead, you’ll be busy studying the men of old and their works.
Psychologically speaking, humans don’t change.
Our tastes do change from time to time but deep within, we are still having the same (old) mind.
That’s the reason why the marketing strategies that work in a telecom company could work in an automobile company.
That’s why a branding strategy that works in the battle between Coke and Pepsi in 1987, if twisted a little, could work today in another industry.
What is my message here?
Studying the champion of yesteryear is the fastest way to be a champion today.
Just as musicians today twist and reproduce the music of 60s, any smart entrepreneur can learn from the last century’s creativity and strategies.
Open your mind and learn.
Read books and magazines that cover business and companies’ history, strategies and stories.
If you’re lazy and hate reading, YouTube can help you.
Study yesterday’s creativity to know how to be creative today.
I love you
