The dream of many people is to have a good job.
Most times when people mention good job, they forget to mention the bad part of every “good job“.
What most people consider in a job to call it good is usually the salary and other financial benefits.
In my own opinion, this is the last thing to consider whenever we are trying to decide whether a job is good or not.
In this tutorial, I am going to write some of those ugly things about job and I will round off with two reasons why you may get a job anyway.
Let`s get in!
- I Hate Job Because Its denies You of Your Freedom.
Over 92% of Americans are not happy with their jobs. Maybe 99% of Africans don`t like their job, we don`t have statistic for that yet.
Do you know why most people don`t like their job?
Let me tell you.
It has very little to do with the salary, instead, it has much to do with freedom.
Let me show you how it happens.
Human beings are happy in direct proportion to how much freedom they have. Think about this. If you sleep in a room for 9 hours, wake up, take your bath, eat, watch football and sleep again till night and sleep all over again, you will be happy and joyful … so far as nobody force you to do so.
Now to the other side.
You are arrested by the police and put into a very beautiful room with everything, including television and food.
As according to law, you know you must be released before 24 hours (if you were not arrested for a criminal offense), but you will be terribly sad.
Why? Because you lost your freedom.
As human being, ugly things really don`t make us sad as much as beautiful things we are forced to do.
That is the first reason why I hate job.
I love to work hard, and really hard, but I hate to be instructed. It makes me sad, especially when I really don`t love that thing a boss want me to do.
Maybe it`s because I am proud, I don`t really know.
- I Hate Job because You Must Work, Even When You Don`t Feel like Working.
You understand what I am saying, don`t you?
You wake up on a raining Wednesday morning. Apart from the fact that rain makes you feel like sleeping a little more, your body is very weak with a slight headache.
Behold, you remember your boss and her usual lioness voice.
You manage to stand up and take your bath. The headache continues but you just must continue working, or else… you know what I mean.
How can someone be happy in such a situation?
I had a friend who was a banker. One morning I gave him a call and he told me, friend I am having malaria.
Some hours later when I called him back he told me, I am at work. Is your malaria gone? No. I just have to manage myself, he said.
I think life should have a meaning more than this.
I think as a human being I should have more control over my life than what job allows.
- You Are Not in Charge of Your Income, So You Cannot Increase it If You Want to.
An entrepreneur can work hard, study more and strategize a better way to increase his income.
This can double or triple and even quadruple his income within few months.
How can an employee do that?
I remember talking on phone with my friend, Ikenna Odinaka (who owns www.blogerian.com) earlier this year.
We were just talking after a day`s work when he spoke about an idea. Nothing was actually new about what he talked about (though I didn’t know it before that night).
I went to work immediately and that single idea doubled the value of my business.
I didn’t spend four years to have another degree (as many employees will do because of promotion).
I didn’t even spend four hours to read a marketing book.
I just discussed on phone with a friend. If you start a job with #100,000 a month and you want to be earning #200,000/month, you have to keep on working hard, upgrading your certificates and praying, you know, office politics can still keep you at a point even after you have done all these.
I hate job.
My most unhappy moment was when I was an employee.
- Job Limited Your Experience.
A banker goes to work every morning, deals with the same situations and people as he did yesterday.
He lives in the same environment, until he gets a transfer.
Some people claim that job gives you experience. I disagree. Every entrepreneur knows that part of being in business is being “jack of all trade“ (even though you are a specialist).
Let me give you an example.
Dangote was dealing in cement. He later started dealing in sugar, salt, etc. Now refinery. Do you know something?
Each of the above mentioned business lines will force him to go and read some new books, meet some new experts, travel to some new places, and so widen his experiences.
- Job Limit Your Friendship
Being in business will not just give you experiences, you will be exposed to so many people from different areas of life and expertise.
Some of my great partners and friends would never have come my way if not for business.
You said I would have met other people if I was an employee? Yes, but not as divers in skills, locations and experiences, and you know, I wouldn’t have had such good relationship as I have with them.
Take for instance a banker, though many people are coming to your office, you are not allowed to be informal or discuss unofficially with them.
Someone may say, what then is experience and relationship having to do with life?
Read number 3 above and you will see what I am saying here.
You cannot go in life beyond those you know.
- Job Discourages Initiative
Just like I wrote in the reasons why I hate school, what your boss asks you to do is what you must do, even if any unusual situation arise.
If you are a medical doctor and your superior tells you, “no attendance to pregnant woman on Fridays“, even if a pregnant woman is before you dying, you are afraid of attempting what may take your job away from you.
I really will not want to live my life in such conditions as job provides.
I am a stubborn boy.
I remember as a child when my father would send me to bring something, i.e, cutlass. I would bring hoe to him and whenever he asked me why, I would tell him, daddy, I think you don`t really need a cutlass to do what you want to do here. It is hoe you need.
Hell, you cannot think as an employee.
You just need to obey.
I believe this takes away part of what make us human.
- Your Son Cannot Inherit Your Job.
Do I need to explain this?
If you work for the richest company in Africa for 30 years and die, well the company may buy your casket.
If you labour and build a company of your own, you have built something your child will inherit.
Coca Cola has been in existence for more than 128 years. It is still moving from one generation to another. Your job cannot move to your child, no matter how hard you work for that “your“ company.
If at all I have being speaking nonsense since I started this tutorial, I know this point alone is good enough to win you to my side.
See, today I am working so hard to build something profitable. If I do this for the next 30 or 40 years and die, my children will inherit my business and keep it going.
Who will inherit your job?
Now that I have listed seven ugly things about job, what do I expect from you?
Well, don`t resign your job yet. My purpose is to show you why you must be an entrepreneur.
Must?
Not really.
You see, not all of us can be entrepreneurs (just as not all of us can be medical doctors). But many of us can be successful entrepreneurs, but we were never trained to be.
There is no reason for being an employee when you have all it takes to be a business owner.
However, bellow two reasons can make you to remain an employee.
- If You Love Your Job.
What is bad in being an employee? Nothing, except if you hate to remember that office.
My studies and experience have shown me that human beings are not the same. Some of us are extrovert while others are introvert.
Some of us are social, we love to meet people, to be on the move, to talk and talk
Some other people are silent. They love to work from a sport day in day out. They wouldn`t mind if you cage them in an office.
When you noticed that you are domineering, ambitious and independent, what did you think? Did you think everyone is like you?
No. I was surprised when I discovered that some people love to be instructed, and in fact, if you don`t instruct them they are not happy.
What is my point here?
Being an employee is never a bad thing … If you love your job.
How do you know whether you love you job?
You are always surprise when anyone tells you it is 4pm. Time goes too fast when you are in your office. If otherwise, you hate your job.
- If You Are Just Getting Inspiration to Be an Entrepreneur.
For many Africans, their first entrepreneurial dream came when they came across the ABC (this organization).
After some people read our tutorials or books, they say, “now I know I can be a successful entrepreneur“.
If you are one of these people, we are glad to have opened your eyes.
However, this is not the right time to resign your job, instead, it is the time to learn and prepare for your entrepreneurial journey.
Business is not buying and selling as most people think.
Business is a Science (or Art, I don`t really know). Business is a profession, and the most serious one for that matter. Just as you need to study hard to become a Lawyer or Accountant, you have a lot to study to be an entrepreneur.
If this sounds like heresy, you may log out of this site and never return.
If it sounds believable, then, make it your duty read everything the ABC has put here and visit this website often as we are updating this site at least four times every week
You will greatly love these business training
Thanks.
